History

At Tottenhall, we aspire for all children to be happy, curious, and engaged learners who enjoy discovering the past. Our History curriculum provides opportunities for children to build on prior knowledge as they progress through the school, deepening their understanding of people, events, and changes over time.

Each topic encourages pupils to explore history in practical and meaningful ways. Children record and present their learning through a variety of formats such as fact sheets, true/false information cards, and posters. Educational visits and themed days are carefully planned to enrich the curriculum, consolidate learning, and inspire a lifelong interest in History.

Teaching and planning are guided by the aims and core knowledge set out in the National Curriculum. Teachers create exciting and stimulating lessons that develop pupils’ historical knowledge, skills, and understanding. Children are given opportunities to handle and examine artefacts, helping them to make tangible connections with the past.

Our History curriculum includes topics such as changes within living memory, events beyond living memory, the lives of significant individuals, toys past and present, and Kings and Queens. Through these engaging themes, pupils gain a strong foundation for future historical learning.
